RED’s favourite Christmas ads for 2024

It’s become a Christmas tradition, watching those festive TV ads commissioned by big consumer brands and popular high-street stores. It’s certainly a magical time for advertising agencies, which get to flex their creative muscles and spend a little more of the clients’ money as they try to outdo last year’s offerings.

There’s usually something for everyone – the tear jerkers (some would say sentimental!), a dash of humour, and famous stars in silly jumpers. Here are our top picks from 2024.

Paul’s favourite is the classic Coca-Cola “Santa and the Big Red Truck” combination. A staple for decades, this year’s wasn’t to everyone’s taste because it was made using AI rather than real actors. Judge for yourself.

Nicole has gone for humour with Barbour’s advert, which features Wallace and Gromit’s friend, Shaun the Sheep. There’s a nice pun in this one: “Baa-bour” – get it?! Nicole is a big fan – she even had a Shaun the Sheep backpack!

Kerrie’s selection comes from the Norwegian Postal Service. Shot in a documentary style, it charts the rise and fall of Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer, who can’t cope with all the Christmas fame that has come his way!

Becca has chosen this year’s offering from Waitrose, which centres around the mystery of a missing dessert. All the guests are suspects, and the story comes in two parts to keep the audience guessing.

Steve’s favourite comes from another big supermarket, Morrison’s. They are playing for laughs this year with a musical number featuring singing oven gloves! What more could you want this Christmas!
