Describe your typical day
My day usually starts with walking the dog and then to work. As a home worker, it’s a great not having to commute. There’s quite a lot of variety in my job – I could be writing a blog or a case study in the morning and checking a video script in the afternoon. No one day is the same, which keeps things interesting.
After shutting the laptop it’s out with the dog again or – if I’m in the mood – I’ll take to the rowing machine. This is a low-impact form of exercise I recommend to anyone who doesn’t like jogging, cycling or lifting weights!
Tell us some of the highlights from your time at RED
I’ve have been lucky enough to travel as part of my job, visiting Denmark, Czech Republic and Sweden. These trips were undertaken to produce client reference videos, which was something new for my career. They have all been hugely enjoyable, creative experiences through which I’ve met some great people. Seeing the final results after everyone’s hard work makes me proud of our team.
How would you describe your approach to work?
As a copywriter, I’m always thinking of the reader. I try to keep everything as straightforward as possible to achieve my goal – people should be able to read through the piece once and understand everything. It’s not rocket science – even if you’re writing about rocket science!
What do you do to relax?
I live in the countryside, which means I can indulge in my passion for walking with my wife and our dog, Ginger. I also enjoy cooking – with mixed success – as well as a trip to the pub. I’m also a keen filmgoer and hide behind the sofa when my favourite football team – Leeds United – are playing. Perhaps “relax” is stretching the point.
What advice would you give someone who’s interested in an agency position?
One of the joys of working for an agency is that you’ll probably get to work across different accounts. Variety is the spice of life they say, and it’s nice to collaborate with different people from different organisations.
Be open-minded and willing to learn new things. I write about logistic process automation, something which I knew nothing about before joining RED. And do you know what – it really is very interesting.
