Five minutes with… Editorial Director, Kerrie Kashani

We grab a cup a tea and catch up with RED’s Editorial Director Kerrie Kashani to see what’s happening in her world…

Describe your typical day

Most days start with a dog walk with my husband, then helping my two kids get organised for school, then a three-second commute to my garden office to start work.

We usually have a Teams call in the morning to catch up on work and what we’re all up to. After we’ve decided priorities for the day, I’ll be busy with research and copywriting for press releases and online articles, maybe writing a script for a video or animation, having Teams meeting with clients to discuss upcoming events and projects, and liaising with designers on brochures.

Sometimes there’s a photo shoot to organise… some social media posts to check… and if there’s any time left, I try to do some online learning about sustainability in marketing. It’s nothing but varied.

Before I know it, the kids are back from school, dinner is on the horizon, and the dog needs another walk!

Highlights from your time at RED

I’ve been to some fascinating places while working at RED and for our clients – Kazakhstan and Moscow stand out, Germany’s always a personal favourite, as well as France, Switzerland, Italy, Norway and Finland. And I’ve met some amazing people from whom I’ve learned a great deal.

I’m proud to have been part of RED since the start and to have helped it grow and develop over the years.

How would you describe your approach to work?

Details, details, details… since my time as a sub-editor early on in my career, I’ve learned how important is to focus on the details to produce high-quality, professional work.

I think it’s also important to think about solutions – when something doesn’t go as planned – I try to think of an alternative way round things or a way to help.

What do you do to relax?

To really switch off, it’s yoga and reading – I can’t go to bed without a book! Also, walks in the nearby woods, going to concerts when I get the chance, and watching my kids play football.

Do you have any career advice?

Say yes to things, you never know who you might meet or what may come from it.

Stick to your passions – if there’s an area of the industry you’re really interested in, then you’re more likely to succeed at it, and your enthusiasm will impact others.

And every day is a school day… I’m still learning!
