The South Cave Sporting Club Under 9s team (sponsored by RED) has enjoyed a successful second season of competitive football in 2015-16. The squad has grown from nine to ten players to accommodate the move from five-a-side (Under 8s) to the seven-a-side format. The team have since continued to progress and impress.
A deserved promotion
With added maturity, the team only lost twice in the first half of the season (September to November). As a result, they were deservedly promoted from Group 4 to 3. With the expected leap in quality, the boys continued to show their talent and will to win in the second half of the season (February to May). They were rewarded with a closely fought campaign and a second consecutive promotion to Group 2.
Summer 6s tournament
Eight of the squad also competed in the end-of-season Summer 6s tournament. The tournament – also sponsored by RED – was hosted by South Cave Sporting Club Junior FC. The team was unlucky not to progress into the knock-out stages of the cup. However, they bounced back to win the plate competition, progressing through the quarter and semi finals to beat Costello Panthers 1-0 in the final.
