RED Graphic Designer Matt recently attended the first Design Meetup at Hull’s C4Di. Here, he discovered the latest developments and trends – particularly within the marketing and communication industry. The night brought together creatives, businesses, freelancers and industry experts to Hull’s city centre.
Rob Lewis from 54 Degrees North – a scientist with 30 years of industry experience – kicked things off with the first presentation. His talk covered innovation and how design, and its culture, is linked to product development.
After a pizza and beer break, founder of e3creative Jake Welsh was then introduced. His presentation covered the ever-changing role of ‘the designer’. The creative industry is evolving at such a rapid pace, prompting designers to constantly be in pursuit of the next big idea. This requires them to delve beyond their traditional area of expertise.
The event also covered the interpretation of design briefs, and how to approach them in new ways to get the most from a campaign, and the client-agency relationship. In addition, designers were encouraged to challenge themselves.
Hull’s first Design Meetup provided much inspiration for Matt. Thank you to the organisers of the event, we look forward to seeing you at the next one!
