After being hit particularly hard by the global financial crisis, Portugal is certainly making a welcome comeback if the construction industry is anything to go by. We were privileged to meet two successful companies after a kind invitation from the country’s Hitachi construction machinery dealer, Moviter.

Key projects

Siro’s new Zaxis-6 excavator is playing a key part in the company’s unique production process to develop compost material from forest residue – mainly from pine bark – to be used in organic substrate and compost production.

And Machrent’s new fleet of 24 Hitachi mini and medium excavators – representing the largest order of its kind in the country during 2016 – is making a significant impact on Lisbon’s infrastructure projects.

Thank you!

Special thanks to the long-term friend of RED, Rui, for all of his help and hospitality on our trip to the Iberian peninsula. This included his advice for what to do in the pleasant evenings we spent in Lisbon and two unique dining experiences that we will never forget: the steak restaurant with only one item on the menu; and the opportunity to have lunch with a horse and carriage (more details on either highlight available upon request!).
