Edge of the Black Forest

At RED, we love getting a special assignment. On behalf of our client Hitachi Construction Machinery (Europe) NV (HCME), Andy and Glenn headed to southern Germany to see two of its machines in action, but that’s only half the story…

Good weather for gardening

The residents of Freiburg have plenty to be happy about. It’s one of Germany’s sunniest cities and lies on the edge of the picturesque Black Forest. The area has long been a magnet for tourists looking to ski and hike, or visit its many spa towns.

The RED team joined HCME’s Machiel Schrijver and Martin Vissers just north of Freiburg, in the suburb of Bötzingen. It’s home to landscape gardening company Susewind. The latest assignment for owner Sven and his colleagues was to create a terraced garden behind two newly-built homes.

Close cooperation

To support the project, Susewind had purchased a Hitachi mini excavator and a compact wheel loader. Glenn and Andy’s mission was to showcase how effectively the two machines were working together, and the job site was the perfect scenario to see this cooperation first hand.

Given the abundance of sunshine, it’s no surprise that Bötzingen lies in the heart of the Kaiserstuhl wine-making region. Even the job site sat next to a 4,000-hectare vineyard. However, there was no time for a taster! As always, the REDs worked hard to come away with some excellent movie, photography and written materials.

Danke schoen!

We’d like to thank everyone from HCME and Susewind for their friendship and support during our two-day visit. A special mention also goes to Manuel Huiber from Hitachi’s local dealer Kiesel for looking after the team.
