The importance and relevance of the recycling industry to the environment continue to increase. This was particularly evident to the RED team on a visit to a DEC (DEME Environmental Contractors) soil and sediment recycling centre in Flanders, Belgium. The eight-hectare site on the banks of the River Scheldt at Zwijndrecht, near Antwerp recycles 80,000 tonnes of sludge per year.
