A day in the life of… Content Marketing Executive, Emily

In our latest blog series, we found out what a day in the life of RED’s Content Marketing Executive, Emily, looks like…

7:30am – time to start the day…

I’m not much of a morning person, so I wake up at 7:30am every weekday and grab breakfast on the go. I live about 25 minutes away from RED’s HQ in South Cave, so I’m out of the door by around 8:00am.

8:30am – coffee!

Our office opens at 8:30am and once I’ve arrived, I usually catch-up with the other team members over a hot drink. RED prides itself on its quality coffee – which is the best way to start my day! I have my daily coffee while checking my emails and getting set up.

10am – editorial planning

By this time, I’m settled in and have replied to any emails and followed up on any admin from earlier in the week. The editorial team (made up of copywriters and content executives) has a daily meeting to discuss new and ongoing projects, and to update our schedule accordingly.

11am – key client written content

My main role at RED is writing, writing, and more writing! I create news articles and stories for one of our main clients almost every day, for publication on an online news site. I spend a few hours researching potential stories and contact our network across the. I then use the majority of my afternoon to draft new, engaging pieces to send to the client.

Around 1:00pm, I head for lunch. I get out of the office every day for some fresh air and now that spring has finally sprung, I use most of my break getting some steps in. South Cave has some beautiful walking routes that I like to follow!

2pm – meetings and client work

Some afternoons, we have client meetings or content-generating interviews with customers. RED is truly an international agency and so these are generally conducted online via MS Teams, as the recipients are typically based abroad. I then follow up with any notes or transcripts.

If no meetings are scheduled, I get on with some client communication – pitching content ideas, getting feedback from our contacts, and chasing approvals for pieces we have already written.

4pm – more writing

After this, it’s back to the keyboard to draft some more content. The rest of my afternoon will consist of more copywriting, ranging from blogs, to press releases, to web and social text. I send any completed drafts to our Editorial Director for internal approval before I sign off.

5:30pm – home time!

Time to head home! My evenings usually consist of a run and some reading (I’m currently working my way through Cleopatra and Frankenstein by Coco Mellors) or a trip to the cinema/pub with my boyfriend. If the weather is nice, we’ll go on a long walk or tackle some DIY on our new house.
